HFMA Attends 2017 Hawaii on the Hill

Members of HFMA including HFMA President Rudy Balala, Maui Gold Pineapple Company and Board members Jimmy Chan, Hawaiian Chip Company and Ruth Hashisaka, Kauai Kookie attended the 4th Annual Hawaii on the Hill event led by the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii and U.S. Senator Mazie Hirono.

The HFMA table, in cooperation with the State of Hawaii Department of Agriculture, showcased a Hawaiian Style menu crafted with products from members including Diamond Bakery, Island Princess, King’s Hawaiian, Koloa Rum, Hawaii Candy, Menehune Mac, and more.

The menu featured pineapple & mango peach iced tea, mai tai, kalua pig sliders, local food pairings, and a dish inspired and prepared by Chef James Aptakin of Turtle Bay Resort. Chef James’ yakisoba delight featured Sun Noodle yakisoba noodles, an intricately delectable coral cracker of Chef James’ invention, Aloha Shoyu’s Teriyaki Sauce, and Hawaii Candy’s Wun Tun Strips.

The 2017 Taste of Hawaii event at Hawaii on the Hill was attended by more than 1,600 people and was a great way to showcase and promote Hawaii foods and products at a national level. The Hawaii “taste of” event was the largest of any state and captured widespread media attention. Many Senators were in attendance at the event as well, providing a great opportunity to talk to and share Hawaii food and products to the many attendees in Washington, D.C.!
